Paper Cuttings

18th Century Paper Cuttings

Synopsis:

In his lifetime Richard Hall entertained his children with making intricate paper cut-outs showing scenes of everyday life, from ships to coaching inns, from farming activities to rapiers, and from marching troops to galloping cavalry.

The collection of nearly forty cut outs are brought together in this volume, with an introduction to the art of paper cutting – the tools which Richard used, the paper, the historical background, and so on.

The paper cuts are then shown separately, with text on the opposite page explaining the scene and putting it in context.
